Old Master, British & European Pictures

Wednesday 12 November 2025 10:00

Roseberys’ November Old Master, British and European Pictures auction features over 500 hand-selected paintings, drawings and prints, and represents a diverse collection of works by artists across art historical movements and genres.

The auction features an impressive offering of early works including important oils by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Margherita Caffi, and early followers of Titian and Caravaggio.

The sale is particularly strong in late 19th / early 20th century British and European pictures, and includes compositions by Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Louis Hubbard Grimshaw, William Strutt, Henry Charles Bryant, Stanhope Forbes, José García y Ramos, Edouard Cortes, and José Gallegos y Arnosa.

The British late 18th / early 19th century has strong representation with two notable highlights including a chalk and wash sketch by John Constable and an Irish landscape in oils by Francis Danby, the latter of which was exhibited at Tate Britain in 1989, and both of which have never been seen on the auction market before. Further highlights in this category include oils by James Ward, William Daniell, Sir Thomas Lawrence, Samuel Henry Alken, George Romney, and the Studio of Sir Joshua Reynolds.

We are also delighted to present a remarkable set of maritime paintings from a distinguished family collection, as well as paintings from the prominent collections of the Farrer Family, and the late Baron Stanley Kalms (1931-2025), amongst others.
