Roseberys are pleased to offer for the first time a stand alone auction dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art from the Middle East and South Asia. Following on from the strong results seen for modern Indian art both in India and New York, we have a wonderful Souza Landscape painted in 1961 in Belzize Park, a 1948 oil by Rathin Maitra, founder of the Calcutta Group and a group of sculptures by Somnath Hore (1921-2006) from the Private Collection of Niladri and Ranu Chaki. The Middle East section features a mesmerising oil from the desert series by Jordanian painter Wijdan Ali (B. 1939) , abstract works on paper by Moroccan artists Jilali Gharbaouie (1930-1971) and Mohammed Kacimi (1943-2003) and a still life by Iranian artist Leyly Matine-Daftari (1937-2007).
