Modern British & 20th Century Art: Part II

This sale is defined by exciting finds from the Post-War era, including a major late portrait by Zoran Mušič (lot 266) and a sensational 1948 painting by Peter Rose Pulham (lot 267), originally owned by his friend, the artist Isabel Rawsthorne. We also have a remarkable body of works by contemporary artists, including Barbara Kruger (lots 463-464), George Condo (lot 490) and Tony Cragg (lot 462).

Both parts feature works from exceptional collections, spanning the breadth of 20th century art history. Part I features The Estate of Jeffrey Judelson (lots 54-84), including Augustus John, Ceri Richards and Ben Nicholson, The Estate of Professor Joseph Rykwert CBE (lots 85-104), with works by the owner’s friends Prunella Clough, Michael Ayrton and Jean Hélion, and an important Private Collection of Early Modern British Art (lots 1-53). This includes works by the Whitechapel Boys: David Bomberg (lot 2), Mark Gertler (lot 3) and Jacob Kramer (lots 6-11).

Part II features A Private London Collection (lots 269-311), with St. Ives artists Sir Terry Frost and Sandra Blow, alongside A Private British Collection (lots 312-330), with works playing with geometric abstraction and Pop by Richard Smith and Bernard Cohen. The sale has further highlights by Maggi Hambling (lot 483), Sir Antony Gormley (lot 471) and Sir Frank Bowling (lot 487), finishing with a dedicated section of Modern & Contemporary African Art (lots 540-552).
