Modern British & 20th Century Art: Part I

The sale once again brings together the best of Modern art from across the world, encompassing the breadth of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Early highlights in Part I include a heady nude by Willy Eisenschitz (lot 99), a moving First World War scene by Gaston Balande (lot 27) and sensational collections of works by Dame Ethel Walker (lots 34-36) and Isabel Rawsthorne (lots 289-293). We also have an important early painting by Trinidadian painter and actor Geoffrey Holder (lot 194).

In Part II, particularly special is a collection of early works by contemporary painter Michael Armitage (lots 503-506), charting the early development of one of the most important artists working today. We also have special pieces by Mary Fedden (lot 405) and Gary Bunt (lot 409), alongside a striking portrait by contemporary Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi (lot 542).

The sales features works from numerous Artist’s Estates, including the Estate of Derek Hill (lots 283-288), with pieces by Zoran Mušič and Pavel Tchelitchew, as well as a Private Collection from Motcombs Restaurant in Belgravia (lots 295-306), which features pieces by Graham Knutell and Roy Spencer.
