Wondering how to get your foot into the art world? The entry price points within Roseberys upcoming Urban & Contemporary Art sale are very accessible for those who have a relatively small amount of disposable income to get onto the art buying ladder. With so many diverse artists, styles and subjects, it is also a very fun area to invest in. The sale has a wide range of pieces, with prints and multiples being the dominating work of art on offer.
Here we illustrate five highly collectible works of art on offer by British artists with attractive price points within the Urban & Contemporary Art auction at Roseberys on Wednesday 24 February.
Damien Hirst is one of the founding members of the Young British Artists, who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is reportedly the United Kingdom's richest living artist. Although Damien Hirst is usually associated with extremely expensive pieces of work, we have 4 lots on offer from him with affordable price points, which includes a Butterfly Heart print, a Swatch spot Mickey Mouse watch, spot clock and the porcelain set as seen in the image above.
Banksy, British b.1974- Peckham Rock Postcard, 2018 £100-£150
Banksy needs no introduction. The street artist, political activist, and film director who has been active since the 1990s has become renowned for his satirical street art, which combines subversive epigrams with dark humour and his graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. The world-famous street and graffiti artist has one of the most sought-after portfolios of work due to the scarcity and medium upon which he produces his art. The post card produced below is a great piece for any Banksy fan or new collector, coming with an estimate of £100 – 150.
Stik, British b.1979- Stik (book), 2018; offset lithograph in grey on thin wove £150-£250
Another well-known British street artist included in the upcoming Urban & Contemporary Art auction is “Stik”. He is known for his Stick people who form a lot of the work he produces. He creates street art mainly in London but has now produced pieces all over the world. His work has fetched over £150,000 at auctions, however his prints can be sourced for less such as the artwork on offer at Roseberys pictured above.
Jamie Hewlett, British b.1968- Song Machine 2; digital print in colours on wove, £150-£300
Jamie Christopher Hewlett is an English comic creator, animator, designer, illustrator, and director, best known as the creator of the comic book Tank Girl and co-creator of the virtual band Gorillaz, alongside Blur frontman Damon Albarn. The piece above features the iconic characters from the band Gorillaz and a classic architectural London icon in Trellick tower. Another work on offer by the artist within the same sale is lot 23 titled Broken, which comes with an estimate of £100- £200.
James Cauty, British b.1956; Copyright Theft, 2006; giclee print in colours on wove £200-£300
James Francis Cauty, also known as Rockman Rock, is an English artist and musician, best known as one-half of the duo The KLF, co-founder of The Orb and as the man who famously burnt £1 million. This piece by Cauty is a statement towards the post office and Royal Mail who claimed copyright infringement against him for one of his works using stamps. It’s a great contemporary piece to own and comes with a price estimate of £200 – 300.
