Antiquities, Islamic & Indian Art
Friday 31 October 2025 10:00
Roseberys' October 31st sale of Antiquities, Islamic and Indian Arts will feature a wide range of works from the ancient world to the 20th century.
The Antiquities section is led by two private UK collections of early glass with a rare Byzantine mould blown pitcher at £3,000-£4,000 and a number of intact Roman coloured glass vessels. Roman jewellery is also featured, as well as a Romano-British marble votive relief originally discovered in a bombed garden in Putney after WWII.
The Islamic arts are led by a 14th century Mamluk carved ivory inlaid wood panel acquired at Spink & Sons in 1976, a group of signed lacquered Qalamdans, including one last seen at Sotheby’s Geneva in 1995, and three rare Qajar photograph albums featuring collodion, albumen and matte silver prints by photographers including Abdullah Mirza Qajar and Antoin Sevruguin, depicting events, places and personages from the 1880s-1920s for £10,000-£15,000.
The Indian section features a number of Mughal portraits, a large Vizagapatam brass model of a musket man on his camel dating to late 18th century and a portrait of a Sikh officer by Swedish artist Egron Lundgren (1815-1875), whose other Sikh works are held by the Royal Collection Trust.
PLEASE NOTE: As of 28 June 2025, lots in this auction that are of non-EU origin, of a certain age and, in some categories, above a certain value may be subject to additional requirements for import into the European Union. Bidders are advised to make their own enquiries and obtain independent advice to determine whether these additional requirements apply to a given lot before bidding. It is the Buyer's responsibility to apply for any required export or import licence or permit, and/or submit an importer statement, where required. A Buyer’s inability or delay in obtaining an export or import licence or permit, and/or submitting an importer statement, where required, will not be a legitimate basis for sale cancellation or a delay in payment.
