Portrait of a Woman;

pencil on paper, bears studio stamp, 15 x 13.2 cm.

Provenance:
with Wolseley Fine Arts, London.
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
Cross was an important figure in the Post-Impressionist movement, and influenced development of Fauvism, particularly through the work of Henri Matisse (1869-1954). The present striking and delicate sketch recalls a drawing by Cross which sold at Ripley Auctions, Indianapolis, on 31 August 2023, lot 113 ($1,300 hammer), or another which sold at Swann Galleries, New York, on 10 March 2022, lot 95.
