Description

Four hand coloured lithographs,  

Halakoo Mirza, the Persian Prince, after David Wilkie, Constantinople, November 4th, 1840, nasta'liq script below reading as amal-e Vilki nakash bashi (?) angriz and dated solar Hijri 1206/1827-8AD

Mr. Cartwright and the Arab Sheikh :
Mounted framed and glazed. Some very light staining. Good condition overall.

Please note the works above have not been taken out of their mounts and frames to prepare this condition report.

Halakoo Mirza :
Corners scuffed. Edges with small tears and losses. Gutter edge in poor condition.  Outside edge sharp. Work formerly askew in its mount and frame and expose to light resulting in an uneven fading. Numerals in pencils to upper left corner. Fair condition.

Sultan Abdul Meedjid :
Corners scuffed. Lower left corner lacking. Edges in fair condition. Gutter edge with losses and scuffed. Larger loss to lower left corner and edge. Repaired (tape) tear to upper edge close to upper right corner. Numerals in pencils to upper left corner. Good condition overall.

Please note the two works above have been taken out of their mounts and frames to prepare this condition report. They have not been reframed. Both frames and mounts are available upon request upon collection of the lot.

The Wellcome Collection notes, Hulaku Mirza, also called Bahadur Khan, was a Persian author and calligrapher who lived for some time in exile in Turkey. He was the eldest son of Hasan Ali Mirza Shuja al-Sultaneh (Llewellyn, p. 625).

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500
