Note:
Shafique Uddin, born in 1962 in the village of Borobari, Bangladesh, moved to England at the age of nine and settled in East London, where he still lives today. Although he has spent much of his life in the UK, the memories of his early years in rural Bangladesh continue to resonate deeply in his imagination and are a lasting influence on his work. Uddin made an early mark on the art world with his first solo exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery in London at just seventeen. Since then, his art has been widely exhibited, including in Tate Britain’s landmark 2005 show Outsider Art. His work is held in major public and private collections worldwide, such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, the Arts Council Collection in London, and the Anthony Petullo Collection at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
