Lot 847
Description
Balmain.
A black tuxedo blazer, with peak notch lapel and double-breasted design, and two parallel pockets to the front, the lot comes with original balmain hanger, 100% wool and lining of 52% viscose and 48% cotton, of French size 38 (approx. UK size 8-10)
Grade A-B
Provenance: An Important Private Collection.
Notes:
Introduced as part of Balmain’s modern revival under Pierre Balmain’s legacy and later redefined by Olivier Rousteing, the tuxedo blazer epitomises the brand’s architectural tailoring and Parisian opulence. Characterised by strong, sculpted shoulders, a cinched waist, and sleek satin lapels, it merges the codes of classic menswear with the sensuality of couture.
The tuxedo blazer holds a pivotal place in fashion history for its ability to reinterpret the traditional tuxedo—a symbol of masculine elegance, into a powerful emblem of femininity and empowerment. Its lineage traces back to Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking suit of 1966, but Balmain’s interpretation introduced a new sense of glamour and attitude, transforming it into a statement of modern confidence.
Favoured by icons and red-carpet moments, the Balmain tuxedo blazer became synonymous with the “Balmain Army,” a generation of women whose strength and style redefined 21st-century luxury. It remains a cornerstone of contemporary tailoring and a testament to the enduring dialogue between power, elegance, and identity in fashion.
