A classic earth tweed jacket, “Paris-in-Rome” Métiers d’Art collection 2016, look 38, detailed with copper woven camellia-styled button, and styled with two side pockets with thin layer of chiffon silk lining, 52% wool, 21% linen, 21% acrylic, 3% cotton, 3% polyester, and further with 100% chiffon silk lining, of French size 44 (approx. UK 14/16)

Grade A-B

Original runway value £5,800

Notes:

From Karl Lagerfeld’s “Paris-in-Rome” Métiers d’Art collection, staged as a cinematic homage to ’60s Parisian glamour and Italian film-studio chic, transported the maison into a monochrome romance of tweeds, glossy leathers, and delicate lace. With a palette firmly grounded in beige, black, white, charcoal-grey and navy, the silhouettes ranged from crisp boxy jackets and mid-length skirts to palazzo trousers, slip dresses and guipure lace-trimmed layers, all evoking the idea of a “French girl in Rome” returning home from escapade.

Look 38 jacket captures Chanel’s mastery of tailoring and textile artistry. Crafted in richly woven tweed, a house signature since the 1950s, the jacket features a subtle metallic thread that catches light with cinematic elegance, echoing the film-studio setting of the show. Its sharp, structured shoulders and defined lapels nod to masculine tailoring, while the nipped waist and elegant line retain a distinctly feminine ease.

Delicate ribbon trims, tonal braiding, and silk-lined interiors highlight the work of Chanel’s specialist ateliers, Lesage and Lemarié. The construction balances weight and movement, offering comfort without sacrificing formality. Styled over a softly tailored dress in the runway look, the jacket evokes the Parisian woman of Lagerfeld’s imagination, poised between old-world glamour and modern sophistication. At once refined and practical, it stands as an emblem of Chanel’s ability to transform heritage fabrics into timeless, wearable couture.
