Description
After Giovanni Battista Cipriani,
Italian 1727-1785-
Urania;

Provenance:
Tom Lloyd, Cwrt Henri, Wales.
Private Collection, UK.
Note:
The present work is a copy after Cipriani's original design, which was reproduced as a mezzotint by Richard Earlom (1743-1822) in 1786. The figure of Urania, the Ancient Greek muse of astrology and astronomy, is depicted with her typical attributes, seated on a globe (originally decorated with zodiac figures) atop a cloud, wearing a star diadem, holding a pair of dividers.
