Lot 36

Description

Follower of Francesco Zuccarelli, RA,
Italian 1702-1788-

An Italianate landscape with a man and his dog, with buildings beyond;

oil on board, bears inscription 'ZUCCARELLI' verso, 31.7 x 40.1 cm.

Provenance:
with Leo Blackhall, Aberdeen.

Note:
The present composition recalls Zuccarelli's dramatic and expansive Italianate landscapes, typically featuring figures in the foreground who are dwarfed by the scale of the trees and mountains around them. Similar works by Zuccarelli include a pair which sold at Bonhams, London, on 3 July 2024, lot 44, and another work in the collection of Christ Church, University of Oxford [JBS 125].
