Description
Follower of Sir George Hayter,
British 1792-1871-
Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Mrs Harriet Heylyn, seated half-length, wearing a white dress and a pearl necklace;
oil on panel, bears inscription '.MRS. HARRIET. HEYLYN. BORN. 1788. DIED. 1878[?] / SIR. GEORGE. HAYTER. / PAINTED. THIS. PORTRAIT.' verso, 30.9 x 25.2 cm.
Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.
Note:
Hayter enjoyed particular success in his lifetime as 'Portrait and History Painter' to Queen Victoria and 'Principal Painter in Ordinary to the Queen' upon the death of David Wilkie in 1841. The present work very much resembles his dignified portraits of elegant figures.
