German 1818-1880-

Portrait of an officer seated on a rearing horse, in a mountainous landscape;

oil on canvas, 59.8 x 72.4 cm.

Note:
The present work recalls Ebersberg's striking equestrian portraits, often featuring figures in military uniform on horseback, sometimes accompanied by a dog, such as those which sold at Dorotheum, Vienna, on 5 November 2005, lot 129, and Hermann Historica, Munich, on 14 April 2010, lot 5709. Another similar composition by Ebersberg was offered at Dorotheum, Vienna, on 25 February 2020, lot 133.
