Description
Benjamin Williams Leader, RA,
British 1830-1923-
A Welsh stream in summertime;
oil on board, signed and dated 'B.W. LEADER. 1880' (lower left), 34.2 x 44.4 cm.
Provenance:
Private Collection, UK (by descent).
Note:
The present work is a charming example of Leader's romantic landscapes, which often depict the countryside of his native Worcestershire and the mountains and rivers of neighbouring Wales. Whilst many of Leader's landscapes are characterised by the warm tones of a setting sun, the present scene is illuminated by bright summer sunlight, recalling, for example, a similar work which sold at Sotheby's, London, on 11 July 2019, lot 56.
