oil on canvas, signed and inscribed 'James Webb Paris' (lower centre, to a plank of wood), bears label with partially indistinct inscription 'PARIS IN[?] 1868 painted for / ...[?] Esq. / BY JAMES WEBB' attached to the central stretcher bar, 45.7 x 81.3 cm. (unframed).

Note:
Webb studied under Clarkson Frederick Stanfield (1793-1867) and, like his teacher, became best-known as a highly skilled marine painter. He travelled widely across Europe, depicting the landscapes he encountered in Spain, Germany, and The Netherlands, and even as far afield as Istanbul, then Constantinople. A strikingly similar version of an almost identical view of the Louvre is in the collection of the Sheffield Museums [VIS.1469].

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
