Lot 159
Description
A small Dutch Delftware blue and white footed dish, c.1700, painted with a woman taking tea at a table in an interior, inscribed ik niet / meer is, a kettle on the floor nearby, on a short waisted foot, 5cm high, 12cm diameter
Provenance: Property from a UK Private Collection.
Note: The inscription translates as ‘I don’t want any more’. For an unmarked footed dish of similar size painted with figures around a table in an interior see Marion S. van Aken-Fehmers and Loet A. Schledorn, Delfts Aardewerk, Geschiedenis van een national product, Den Haag, 2001, Vol. 2, p. 287, where the authors date it to circa 1690-1710.
Condition Report
Three stilt marks are visible to the underside of the dish. A firing spot is visible to the well to the left of the hanging lamp. The rims of the dish and foot have expected wear and losses to glaze consistent with age. Some light scratches to the surface of the glaze in some areas. All of these are minor and do not detract from the overall visual appeal of the dish.
