Note:

Born in 1939 in the Punjab region of India, Balraj Khanna was an influential artist, writer, and curator. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1962 with the intention of studying English literature, but soon discovered a deep passion for drawing and painting. Within months of his arrival in London, Khanna became part of a dynamic artistic circle which included notable painters such as F.N. Souza (1924–2002) and Avinash Chandra (1931–1991). By 1964, he had joined the Indian Painters Collective, an organisation committed to advocating for the visibility and recognition of Indian artists in Britain. Khanna’s artworks and archives are now held in major public collections, including Tate Britain, the Arts Council England, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and other institutions.
