Lot 135

Description

A gilt-metal mounted Sèvres porcelain later-decorated ewer and stand, the porcelain probably c.1757-58, the decoration 19th century, each with a blue enamel interlaced L cypher enclosing date letter E, the ewer painted with a shepherdess sleeping by a tree in a landscape, a farm-boy waking her, the stand with two nymphs in loose robes reclining in a wooded landscape, both scenes within gilt cartouches, the gilt-scroll borders with diaper and dot ornament panels, the ewer 17.1cm high; the stand 26cm wide (2)

Both the ewer and stand have heavy pitting throughout, the probable reason why the porcelain was left blank after firing and later decorated in the 19th century. The ewer has several chips to the rim and interior rim of the cover and some scratches to the green ground of the lower body. The stand also has some light scratches to the green ground. The gilding to both the stand and ewer has slightly worn. The painted decoration to both the stand and ewer is intact and fine quality. The ewer contains a newspaper cutting and business card.
