Lot 88

Description

Circle of Tilly Kettle,
British 1735-1786-

Portrait of a lady, half-length, leaning against a pedestal in a wooded landscape;

oil on canvas, 89.6 x 71.4 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
The present work is reminiscent of Kettle's romantic portraits of elegant ladies posing in dramatic, expansive landscapes, often leaning nonchalantly against a Classical pedestal. The present composition somewhat recalls Kettle's 'Portrait of a lady holding flowers' which sold at Sworders on 15 September 2021 (lot 548).
