Description
Arthur Elliot,
British, mid / late 19th century-
Landscape sketches in Jersey, Guernsey, Serk [sic.] etc.;
album of sketches, variously pencil, pen and ink, and watercolour on paper laid down on card, some signed 'A. Elliot', variously titled and dated, variously titled to the card, the frontispiece signed and inscribed 'Designed + drawn by A. Elliot' (lower right), 130 drawings altogether, 38 x 32 cm.
Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.
Note:
The present charming sketches illustrate, in the main, the picturesque and highly varied landscape of the Channel Islands, particularly the islands of Jersey, Guernsey, and Sark. Some, however, capture other locations, such as Hastings and, rather more exotically, Biarritz. These works offer a rare and captivating snapshot into the landscapes, lifestyles, and communities of the Channel Islands in the 19th century.
