Note:
in 1943, Moore was approached by textile businessman and artist Zika Ascher to create textile designs that would combine modernist ideals into everyday lives. Made only a few years after Moore’s ‘Shelter Drawings’ series about Londoners during the Blitz which brought him into the public sphere, in contrast to those works, the textile designs are full of whimsy. They contain iconic motifs for which he would later be recognizable for making them an important transition point in his oeuvre and reflect a new optimism in Britain.
