Tree on the edge of a lake;
oil on canvas, signed lower left 'Noël Coward', titled and dedicated to the reverse 'To Joyce Carey Love N.C.', 51 x 61 cm (ARR)

Note:
the present work is registered with the Noël Coward Society and Archive. Joyce Carey was one of Coward's oldest colleagues and part of his inner circle of friends and family throughout his life. She performed in a number of his plays and productions throughout the years, and first performed in the West End in the 1916 production of Mr. Wu.
The setting of this painting possibly depicts the same scene as 'Trees by the edge of the Lake', also by Coward, sold at Christie's, 16th July 2014, lot 50.
This work is accompanied by the book, 'Out in the Midday Sun, The Paintings of Noel Coward', by Sheridan Morley, Oxford, 1988.

Buyer's Premium

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding. Export licences are issued by Arts Council England and application forms can be obtained from its Export Licensing Unit. The need for import licences varies from country to country and you should acquaint yourself with all relevant local requirements and provisions before bidding.
