Description
Janaina Tschäpe,
German b.1973-
Untitled 2, 2007;
watercolor and pastel on, paper, 130.5 x 113.5cm (ARR)
Provenance: Sikkema Jenkins & Co, New York, where purchased by the present owner.
Note: This artwork is by the German multimedia artist Janaina Tschape. Tschape has a particular interest in exploring the connection between art and the environment through the representation of forms drawn from shapes found in the natural world. This work, in this same manner, recalls an abstract assemblage of plant and aquatic life, with all the fluidity and disorder which imbue the natural world, and the art which represents it, with beauty.
Tschapes work is held in collections around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the National Gallery of Arts in Washington D.C., the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary in Vienna, and the Taguchi Fine Art Collection in Tokyo.
