How to Bid
Buying In Person
All buyers are asked to complete a registration form before the auction and to provide proof of identity at Reception. Rosebery’s cannot accept bids unless registration is completed prior to the auction.
Bidders then receive a ‘paddle’, a card with a buyer number printed on it, which is needed to bid in the auction room.
Buyers Unable to Attend an Auction
Online
All auctions are online in real time at the-saleroom.com. Bidders need to register by 9am on the morning of the auction to be able to buy online. The-saleroom.com charges an additional premium of 3%.
Absentee Bids
It is possible to tell Rosebery’s the highest amount you are prepared to pay for a lot and for the auctioneer to bid for that lot on your behalf. If he is able to purchase it for you at less than your maximum offer, he will do so.
Absentee Bidder Form (right-click and save as to download)
You can place an absentee bid by downloading the form, completing it and faxing it to us on 020 8761 2524. Alternatively you can scan it and email it to reception@roseberys.co.uk. Please note that absentee bids must be received by 9am on the morning of an auction. Bids submitted after this time will not be processed. Rosebery’s cannot be held responsible for bids sent but not received.
Telephone Bids
It is sometimes possible to bid on the telephone. This service is only available for lots with a low auction estimate of £100 and above in a Saturday auction, or £200 and above in a Quarterly Fine Art Auction. Please contact Rosebery’s as early as possible before the auction to request this service as a limited number of lines are available.
Condition Reports
Prospective buyers are strongly advised to personally examine lots in which they are interested during the viewing period prior to the auction. Rosebery’s can, where practical, provide condition reports on lots. These reports will be undertaken on a first come, first served basis so please request them as early as possible since we may not be able to respond to late requests.
New International Buyers
New international buyers are required to leave a £500 deposit before bidding. Rosebery’s will not place bids until the deposit has been taken.
Successful bidders should contact Rosebery’s after the auction to settle their account, at which point their deposit will be refunded. If bidders are unsuccessful, their deposit will be refunded on the Friday after the auction.
Once a deposit has been taken it will not be necessary to do this for any future auctions.
Please note, Rosebery’s is not liable for any bank charges or fluctuations in exchange rates that may occur.
