LANTERN CLOCK THE STAR OF ROSEBERY’S MARCH QUARTERLY SELECT AUCTION
At Rosebery’s two-day quarterly select auction on March 15 and 16, a brass Lantern clock made what is believed to be an auction record of £29,000. The clock, initially thought to be William III in period, was later confirmed as being early 17th century, and the earliest lantern clock to be offered to the market at auction for a long time.

In the Paintings section, established British artists sold well with a chalk and watercolour by Dame Laura Knight (pictured below) making £8200; a William Walcot watercolour making £3500; a Ken Howard oil achieving £3000; a Patrick Procktor watercolour making £2100; a Mary Fedden oil fetching £1900 and a Gillian Ayres acrylic making £1900.

There was also strong interest in jewellery and silver with a Swiss 14ct enamelled snuff box from the early 19th century (pictured below) reaching £3,600

In furniture, a pair of late 19th century oval and foliage carved mirrors achieved £1800, as did a Donegal carpet after a design by Voysey.
